Flower Travellin' Band | Make Up (Orig.) | Album
Released in 1973 as the final statement of their initial run, Make Up is a sprawling double-LP that serves as both a retrospective and a swan song for Japan’s psychedelic rock pioneers. While it lacks the singular, laser-focused intensity of their classic Satori, it offers a more varied look at the band's versatility before their decades-long hiatus. The album is a hybrid of studio recordings and live tracks, which some critics find "frustrating" or "inconsistent" compared to their earlier works. Hideki Ishima’s guitar remains the album's MVP, described as "wailing" and "mesmerising," while Joe Yamanaka's "banshee-like howl" continues to provide an emotional punch.
Flower Travellin Band's 4th studio album Make Up released in 1973 on Atlantic Records, came in a real leather carry case (with handle) when released in Japan. In other markets it was released in a faux-leather sleeve.
