George Harrison's Living in the Material World (1973) stands as his most deeply introspective, spiritually conflicted, and musically understated solo album. Released as the highly anticipated follow-up to his monumental triple-album masterpiece All Things Must Pass, it stripped away the towering, echo-laden "Wall of Sound" orchestration of Phil Spector in favour of an intimate, tight-knit studio band and pristine, front-and-centre guitar work. Critical reception over the decades has remained starkly divided, tracking between a "preachy mess" and a "sleeper masterpiece.
