Gil Mellé | The Andromeda Strain (Soundtrack) | Album

The 1971 soundtrack for Robert Wise's sci-fi film The Andromeda Strain, composed by jazz musician and graphic artist Gil Mellé, stands as a monumental milestone in early electronic music and film scoring. Moving completely away from standard orchestral music or clichés like the theremin, Mellé constructed a harsh, avant-garde masterpiece that remains one of the most uniquely unsettling soundtracks ever pressed to vinyl.

The original vinyl release of The Andromeda Strain was pressed on hexagon-shaped vinyl and comes housed in an elaborate folded pod-shaped silver foil sleeve.
