Kubla Khan (2016) is the second album by Golden Suits, the solo project of Department of Eagles’ Fred Nicolaus. It is a lighter, more experimental pop-rock effort compared to its predecessor, featuring personal songwriting, “Yuppy Bruce Springsteen” influences, and varied instrumentation recorded in a Brooklyn church. The album explores mature themes of memory, love, and growth. The album retains the intimate lyrical approach of his first record but feels happier and covers more ground, ranging from rock 'n' roll to delicate ballads and country-influenced melodies.
