Injury Reserve | By The Time I Get To Phoenix | Album
By the Time I Get to Phoenix is the critically acclaimed second and final studio album by the American experimental hip-hop group Injury Reserve. It was released on September 15, 2021, and serves as a poignant, post-rap tribute to the group's late member and emcee Stepa J. Groggs, who passed away during its recording. The album is noted for its deconstructed, glitchy, and dissonant production style, which moves away from conventional hip-hop structures (many tracks lack traditional choruses or hooks) to reflect themes of grief, loss, and the nature of existence after tragedy. The surviving members, RiTchie with a T and Parker Corey, named the album as Groggs had suggested, taking inspiration from the classic Glen Campbell song made famous by Isaac Hayes.
