Jackson Browne’s Running on Empty (1977) is one of the most innovative and enduring concept albums in rock history. Unlike traditional concept records or standard live albums, it captures the raw, exhausting reality of life on the road by interweaving live concert performances with intimate recordings captured backstage, in hotel rooms, and on the tour bus. It remains Browne's biggest commercial success, peaking at #3 on the Billboard Top 200 and earning a Grammy nomination for Album of the Year.
