Jethro Tull's Aqualung (1971) is widely considered a cornerstone of the progressive rock canon, though it is often defined by the band's rejection of the very "concept album" label critics gave it. The album is split into two thematic halves: Side A (titled "Aqualung") features character sketches of the urban dispossessed, while Side B ("My God") contains a scathing critique of organized religion, particularly the Church of England.
