Jethro Tull's Thick as a Brick, released in March 1972, is a landmark progressive rock album consisting of a single, continuous 43-minute composition split across two sides of an LP. Conceived by frontman Ian Anderson as a lighthearted parody of the "concept album" genre, it reached number one on the US Billboard 200 and remains a definitive work of 1970s rock. While often cited as the "mother of all concept albums," its origins were satirical, influenced by the surreal humour of Monty Python.

Jethro Tull's Thick as a Brick released in 1972 on Chrysalis has one of the most elaborate and creative covers of any rock album, comprising a 12-page Gatefold fold-out newspaper entitled 'St Cleve Chronicle'.
