Who Is Jill Scott? Words and Sounds Vol. 1 is a work of neo-soul that stands as one of the most confident, distinct, and enduring debut albums of the 2000s. Released in July 2000, this record introduced the world to "Jilly from Philly"-a powerhouse who effortlessly bridged the gap between raw spoken-word poetry and rich, jazz-infused R&B. Backed by lush production from DJ Jazzy Jeff’s A Touch of Jazz collective, the album remains a masterclass in down-to-earth storytelling, earning double-platinum status and multiple Grammy nominations.
