Jimmy Little | Messenger | Album
Released in June 1999, Messenger is a late-career work by Indigenous Australian singer Jimmy Little that effortlessly bridges the gap between classic easy-listening crooning and contemporary alternative rock. The album was conceived and produced by Brendan Gallagher of the band Karma County, who stripped back 11 iconic Australian indie, rock, and post-punk anthems to let Little’s velvety vocals take centre stage. The result is an elegant, deeply moving musical history lesson that won the ARIA Award for Best Adult Contemporary Album and introduced a legendary Aboriginal elder to a brand-new generation of younger listeners.
