Koes Plus | To the So Called "the Guilties" (w/ Koes Bersaudara) | Album
Koes Plus’s 1969 debut album, Volume 1: Dheg Dheg Plas, stands as one of the most pivotal turning points in the history of Indonesian rock and pop music. Emerging from the ashes of their former incarnation, Koes Bersaudara—who were notoriously imprisoned by the Sukarno regime in 1965 for playing Western-style "ngak-ngik-ngok" music—the band rebranded as Koes Plus after drummer Nomo Koeswoyo left and was replaced by Kasmuri (better known as Murry). This shift from a strictly family line-up to bringing in an "outsider" transformed their sound entirely, introducing a driving, modern rhythm section that pushed Indonesian music firmly into the future.
