Emerging from the ashes of their former incarnation, Koes Bersaudara—who were notoriously imprisoned by the Sukarno regime in 1965 for playing Western-style "ngak-ngik-ngok" music—the band rebranded as Koes Plus after drummer Nomo Koeswoyo left and was replaced by Kasmuri (better known as Murry). This shift from a strictly family line-up to bringing in an "outsider" transformed their sound entirely, introducing a driving, modern rhythm section that pushed Indonesian music firmly into the future.
