Early Music (also known as Early Music (Lachrymæ Antiquæ)), is a studio album by the Kronos Quartet released on September 12, 1997, through Nonesuch Records. The album features 21 tracks spanning nearly 1,200 years of composition, from the 9th to the 20th century. The album's concept was inspired by David Harrington's desire to find a "sound" that blurred the lines between music of the past and modern compositions that share similar, often spiritual, qualities. It includes traditional arrangements and pieces by contemporary composers like Arvo Pärt and John Cage.
