Led Zeppelin’s seventh studio album, Presence (1976), is widely considered the most polarizing, guitar-heavy, and raw record in the band’s entire discography. Written and recorded during a period of severe personal trauma—most notably frontman Robert Plant recovering from a near-fatal car crash that left him confined to a wheelchair—the album completely stripped away the acoustic textures and keyboard experimentalism of its predecessor, Physical Graffiti. What remains is an aggressive, urgent, 44-minute blitz of pure hard rock and heavy blues driven almost entirely by Jimmy Page’s multi-layered "army of guitars" and John Bonham’s thunderous, driving drum work.
