Released in December 1974, Anima Latina by Lucio Battisti stands as an ambitious, avant-garde classic of Italian music. Written alongside his long-time lyrical collaborator Mogol, the album was inspired by a 1974 trip to South America. It marked a radical departure from the radio-friendly pop formulas that made Battisti a household name. Instead, Anima Latina delivers an immersive, cosmic blend of 1970s progressive rock, traditional Mediterranean folk, and complex Latin American rhythms
Italian progressive rock or Rock Progressivo Italiano (RPI), in the late 1960s and 1970s produced some of the best albums of the era, blending UK-American prog and psych influences with Italian classical traditions.
