Mark Lanegan "The Winding Sheet"
LP (NEW) - Vinyl, Sub Pop, US, 1990, SP61, 098787006117, First Issue, Gatefold Sleeve
Released on 1 May 1990 via Sub Pop, Mark Lanegan’s The Winding Sheet is a masterpiece of the Pacific Northwest aesthetic, trading the psychedelic garage-grunge of his main band, Screaming Trees, for a haunting, stripped-back set of acoustic dirges. Recorded in late 1989 with producer Jack Endino, this debut solo outing strips away the distortion to focus entirely on Lanegan's stark songwriting and gravelly, smoke-stained baritone. Rather than blending into the loud, rowdy grunge scene exploding around Seattle at the time, The Winding Sheet captured its dark underbelly, exploring themes of isolation, addiction, and quiet despair.
