Recorded live at Carnegie Hall on 30 March 1974, Dark Magus is widely regarded as one of Miles Davis's most extreme and aggressive recordings. Critics and fans often describe it as a "menacing" blend of heavy psychedelic rock, dense funk, and avant-garde jazz that pushed his 1970s "electric" period to its absolute limit. This is a "heavy" album, famously included in Q Magazine’s list of the "50 Heaviest Albums of All Time".
