Morbid Angel's 1991 second release, Blessed Are the Sick, is widely considered a seminal work that redefined the boundaries of the death metal genre. Moving away from the relentless, chaotic speed of their debut, Altars of Madness, the band introduced an avant-garde, slower, and structurally sophisticated approach to extreme music.
