Sage Gabriel Carlos Atreyu Elsesser aka Navy Blue is an American rapper, producer, skateboarder, visual artist, and model, born 1997 in Los Angeles. Among his may talents, Elsesser has released twelve studio albums under the moniker Navy Blue, all recorded over a six year period 2020-2026. His songs are characterised by their pensive verses packed with intense self-examination. The earliest Navy Blue projects were uploaded to SoundCloud by Elsesser during the latter half of the 2010s. Àdá Irin, the first proper album, appeared in 2020 with a featured appearance from formative influence and mentor Ka. Elsesser's profile was considerably higher by the time he delivered the Def Jam-supported Ways of Knowing in 2023. He returned to full independence with 2024's Memoirs in Armour, followed by The Sword & The Soaring in 2025. The poetic rapper is also a beatmaker and multi-instrumentalist, having produced much of his own material and tracks by the likes of Mike, Mach-Hommy, Earl Sweatshirt, Armand Hammer, and Wiki. In addition to the artist's many excellent Singles and EPs, standout albums include Song of Sage: Post Panic! (2020), Navy's Reprise (2021), Ways of Knowing (2023), Book II: Gift of Gabriel: Rain’s Reign! (2024), Book III: Crypt of Carlos: Onward! (2024), Memoirs in Armour (2024), The Sword & the Soaring (2025), and his most recent Sir Render (2026). His 2025 album The Sword & The Soaring centered on themes related to the archangel Michael, saw Elsesser mourning the death of Ka. His musical style uses warm, gospel-influenced loops to create what fans and critics describe as "spirit music" designed for meditation, healing, and self-forgiveness. As a teenager, Elsesser made his professional skateboarding debut in the 2014 William Strobeck short film Cherry for fashion brand Supreme. Following the virality of Cherry, he joined Fucking Awesome, a skate brand. He became a professional skater in 2014 through skater collective and clothing store Fucking Awesome. Aside from skating and music, he is also a model for various clothing brands and an artist, most notably handling the art direction for Earl Sweatshirt's album I Don't Like Shit, I Don't Go Outside in 2015. He is the brother of models Paloma Elsesser and Ama Elsesser, and TV/film director and producer Kanyessa McMahon.
