Released in August 1966, East-West by The Butterfield Blues Band is a monumental masterpiece that shattered the conventional boundaries of blues-rock. While their self-titled 1965 debut established them as premier disciples of Chicago electric blues, this sophomore effort went much further. It boldly introduced modal jazz structures, Eastern classical raga, and early psychedelic experimentation. It effectively created a musical blueprint that birthed the San Francisco acid rock scene and the American jam band tradition.
