Protomartyr | Formal Growth in the Desert | Album

Formal Growth in the Desert, the sixth studio album by Detroit post-punk mainstays Protomartyr, is a poignant, expansively cinematic triumph that balances their signature sonic decay with an unexpected glimmer of hope. Released on June 2, 2023, via Domino Recording Company, the 12-track project marks a profound thematic shift for the band. Moving away from the claustrophobic, snarling cynicism of their earlier work, frontman Joe Casey uses the desert as a metaphor for surviving emotional barrenness after experiencing intense personal tragedy.
