Ratcat is an Australian indie rock band who formed 1985 in Sydney fronted by mainstay vocalist and guitarist Simon Day. The early trio comprised Day (vocals, guitar), Amr Zaid (bass), and Andrew Polin (drums). They then rotated through six different bass players, eventually settling on Nic Dalton (ex-The Plunderers, Sneeze, The Lemonheads). Both Day and Levi had previously been members of garage band, Danger Mouse. Along with contemporaries like Hard-Ons and Happy Hate Me Nots, Ratcat was popular with the indie and skate-punk communities for their indie pop songwriting and energetic punk-style guitar rock, epitomised by the hit single "Don't Go Now". In February 1990, Ratcat supported English group Buzzcocks and fellow Australian band Falling Joys, before signing with the rooArt label, distributed by PolyGram. They released a total of four studio albums and several excellent EP's. Their first release to attract critical and commercial attention was 1990's excellent Tingles. This was followed by the equally good debut album The Nightmare. Their third album, 1992's superb Insideout is considered to be their strongest release Their popularity peaked in the '90s when they supported INXS on tours of the UK, Europe and the USA. in 2006 they were a support act on the Psychedelic Furs Australian tour. Standout releases include the EP's Ratcat and Tingles, and the albums This Nightmare, Blind Love and Insideout. A 2010 TV ad for Bonds' brassieres featured a group of women dressed in the branded underwear performing a cover version of Ratcat's "That Ain't Bad" on a street float. An apparently shocked Day made a brief appearance as a passer-by, wearing his once signature black and white striped T-shirt and black jeans, reminiscent of the look he sported in early Ratcat videos.
