Ruby Throat's 2007 debut album The Ventriloquist is a hauntingly beautiful work of gothic neofolk, stripping away the abrasive noise of Katie Jane Garside's previous bands in favour of quiet, menacing intimacy. Born from a collaboration between Garside and busker Chris Whittingham, this project departs radically from Garside’s signature banshee shrieks. Instead, it trades them for a hushed, breathy vocal delivery accompanied by minimalist acoustic arrangements.
