Northern Lights – Southern Cross, released by The Band in November 1975, is widely celebrated as the group's triumphant late-career gem. Acting as their first record of completely original material in four years, it served as both a powerful comeback and an unwitting studio swan song for the original five-man lineup. It stands as the only album in their discography entirely penned by guitarist Robbie Robertson and the first recorded at their legendary Shangri-La studio in Malibu.
