Released in May 1972, Chameleon stands as one of the most fascinating anomalies in the extensive discography of Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons. Notable for being the group's only studio album recorded for Motown Records, it arrived during a tumultuous transition period. Founding members Tommy DeVito and Bob Gaudio had just retired from touring, and the band was aggressively shifting away from their signature 1960s "Jersey Boys" doo-wop formula to survive in a rapidly changing musical landscape.
