The Hot Dogs | Say What You Mean | Album

Say What You Mean, the 1973 debut album by Memphis-based band The Hot Dogs, stands as a "lost gem" of the early 1970s power-pop movement. Released on the Ardent Records label, the record shared a home studio and timeframe with Big Star's seminal early works. However, poor label distribution ultimately buried its commercial potential. While it lacks the angular, tortured edge of Big Star, Say What You Mean delivers a bright, melodic, and harmony-drenched mixture of Beatlesque pop, soulful Memphis rhythm, and classic acoustic rock.
