The 1985 self-titled debut album by Van Zant is a hidden gem of 1980s Arena Oriented Rock (AOR) and melodic rock. Led by Johnny Van Zant-the younger brother of Southern rock icons Ronnie and Donnie Van Zant-this Geffen Records release shifted away from the family's trademark Southern rock roots. Instead, it delivered a polished, hook-heavy radio sound that remains a beloved cult classic among melodic rock purists.
