The soundtrack to Mike Mills’ 2016 film 20th Century Women is a masterfully curated sonic time capsule. It captures the specific cultural friction of Santa Barbara in 1979. Released via Rhino Records, the 19-track album acts as a beautiful, multi-generational bridge. It juxtaposes the fiery emergence of late-70s punk and new wave against the nostalgic jazz and big band melodies of the 1930s and 40s.
