Light and Sound of Mogadishu is a compilation of Somali funk, soul, and afro-rock tracks from the 1970s, released by Afro7 Records in 2015. The compilation features music from the first privately owned recording studio in Somalia's capital city at the time. The compilation aims to capture the vibrant musical spirit of Mogadishu in the 1970s, a period when local bands were heavily inspired by Western acts like James Brown, The Doors, and Santana, creating a unique, organ-led funk sound. The original singles were released on the local "Light & Sound" label, an offshoot of an electric appliance shop where the recording studio was located.
