Phases and Stages, released in March 1974, is a landmark concept album by Willie Nelson that chronicles the dissolution of a marriage. It is widely considered one of the first and greatest concept albums in country music. It was Nelson's second release for Atlantic Records and a critical breakthrough that helped bridge the gap between traditional country fans ("rednecks") and the counterculture ("hippies").
