This is one of the best electronic records of all time. A creative masterpiece and an absolute sonic opus.

Few debuts display such vision and taste that they shape the genre for years to come. But this one does it all with timeless grace and style.

Nearing 20 years since its release, ‘Cross’, as it has come to be known, remains completely enthralling. From start to finish, it’s such a cohesive experience of a record that shows the production prowess of Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosnay.

There’s a vast of array of influences here from their sonic forefathers, Daft Punk, to funk to metal and everything outside and inbetween. The element of aesthetic curation and intention behind the visuals and overall experience of the album is what makes it stand out so much.

It’s a music degree worth of lessons on how to match the tone of visuals - the religious experience of the cross and its stark, minimal colouring - matched with the sounds on the record - vintage synthesisers channelling Jean Michel Jarre with Jaco Pastorius bass lines over a house music pace set by Daft Punk’s ‘Discovery’. It shows everything without saying much at all.

It’s gospel, it’s the second coming and catharsis through dance above all else.

The record is perfect. It’s essential. There’s nothing else to say.

‘Cross’ and ‘Hyperdrama’ are available in the Store now.
